About

Unless you live in LA or New York, you will probably need to travel to experience Immersive Theater or an Extreme Haunt—whether that be by plane or an old fashion road trip, that is up to you. We at The Great American Horror Road Trip take a unique approach to visiting these experiences. More than likely, you won’t be traveling alone. Perhaps your trip companion isn’t into these experiences, or maybe you just want to take in some extra sights on your travels. That’s where we come into play. While traveling to these experiences, we stop and show what there is to do and see in the area. From theme parks to wineries and even just nature walks, we want to help make sure you can make it an event rather than just an experience.

After the trip, we talk about the immersive theater experience or extreme haunt we attended, but we never spoil, rate or compare them to others. We give our opinions at face value. We understand everyone’s limits are different, and not all experiences are for everyone. We will help guide you to ones you’ll enjoy at your comfort level.

Kris Smith started The Great American Horror Road Trip in 2021. Now the site and brand name continue to grow with the help of his wife Kat and several close friends. Kris got into the world of extreme haunts in early 2019, traveling around talking to creators and learning the dos and don’ts of the haunt world. After being a patron of these experiences, Kris decided to try his hand at creating. Due to the pandemic and budget restraints, operating remote experiences seemed like the best fit. Teaming up with Castle of Chaos: The Krusebel, Kris created a unique addition for their extreme haunt. Advance Treatment is a remote experience that allows future Krusebel ticket holders a glimpse into St. Jefferys Asylum before arriving in person. As the demand grew, the experience opened to all wanting to meet the doctors and characters without having to travel.

Horror Road Trip will continue to guide and visit experiences and now also continue putting out more remote experiences. These remotes are set up for anyone to use as stepping stones into the immersive community while also keeping the attention and immersion for those who are veterans of these experiences.
